During the summer, the greenhouse accumulates enough debris, bacteria, pests and infections that can easily survive the winter and affect the future crop. Greenhouse preparation for winter will clean its territory, which will beneficially affect the cultivation of plants in the next season.

Any greenhouse or greenhouse where we grow vegetables, berries, herbs, flowers and other plants is polluted during the warm season. Many plant debris is collected on the surface of the soil, insects and microorganisms that infect plants accumulate inside the soil, some infections are present in the air that can settle on the cover material of the structure and the frame. All this poses a serious danger to future crops, which may decrease significantly next year. But such problems can be avoided if the greenhouse is properly prepared for the winter. In addition, a certain range of works will help to influence not only the quality and quantity of the crop, but also the longevity of the structure itself, because if you provide the greenhouse with care, it will last much longer.

Greenhouse cleaning

The first stage of the preparatory work is the simplest cleaning. Everything is taken out of the greenhouse, absolutely everything superfluous so that only bare soil remains. It is necessary to remove the supports, pegs and trellises, clean, disinfect them and put them in a special storage. Further, it is imperative to clear the soil of weeds and tops, take out all such garbage beyond the territory of the summer cottage, and not sparing it to burn. After that, remove the topsoil, in which the greatest amount of infection remains, and take it out, say, to the garden, where, without scattering it around the territory, loosen it and leave it for freezing and disinfection for the winter.

Soil disinfection

Since in the rest of the soil there are many rhizomes of weeds and cultivated plants, insects and sources of infections, we need to cultivate the land. There are several ways to do this:

  • Dig the earth on the bayonet of a shovel and loosen it well so that during the winter frosts the land is cleared. In addition, during digging, select larvae and insects from the soil, plant debris, and so on. To do this, you can even sow the soil, if you have enough time and desire to do everything right;
  • The soil in the greenhouse can be completely replaced with a high-quality and healthy soil mixture, already fertilized and prepared. A layer of 20-25 cm will need to be loosened so that it heals during the winter period;
  • It is possible to carry out thermal treatment so that all infections and microorganisms die without leaving any trace for the next season, but in order to make the soil “dead” after treatment, biologically active, it will need to be treated with special preparations - Biodestructor, Azotofit, Tikhodermin and others;
  • In addition, if you want not to freeze the soil, but rather warm it for the earliest plantings, you will need to clean it and disinfect it well, and with the first snow falling, cover it inside the greenhouse with a layer of 20-30 cm so that the soil does not froze, and in the spring accumulated moisture.

Preparing the greenhouse for the winter

Greenhouse pre-disinfection

Experts always say that these methods can destroy the infection in the soil, but this is not entirely true, because during the treatment, the greenhouse cover and its frame will be cleaned of infections and pests. In general, let's take a closer look at disinfection methods.

Disinfection of the greenhouse will help to destroy mold and fungus, pathogens of various diseases, ticks, bacterial infection and so on.

Greenhouse disinfection methods

  • To disinfect greenhouses, fumigation is often carried out with sulfur. To do this, strictly at a temperature of + 10 + 15 ° C, 50 g of sulfur are burned out per square meter. Special braziers or pallets are placed over all areas of the greenhouse and ignited. This should be done with the use of personal protective equipment, as well as in accordance with all safety rules, setting fire to sulfur towards the exit from the greenhouse. After igniting the last portion of sulfur, it is necessary to tightly close the greenhouse for several days, and then, ventilate well.
  • To disinfect the soil, you can also use bleach, which scatters on the surface of the soil and is sealed with a rake. Consumption - 100g / 1m2, embedment depth - 2-3 cm.
  • You can use special checkers “Climate”, with which the greenhouse is fumigated in the same way as sulfur. Work should be strictly according to the instructions and observing the PTB.
  • The soil in the greenhouse can be treated with formalin solution (2.5%). Spraying is done very carefully, in a hermetically sealed greenhouse without drafts. Consumption - 1 liter of solution per 1 m2 of soil.

It will be most correct to use biological products, which, perhaps, have a slightly worse effect on infections and pests, but have a whole list of beneficial effects on the soil inside the greenhouse:

  • Such drugs bind heavy metals in the ground;
  • Fixes nitrogen;
  • Decompose possible pesticide residues;
  • Produce natural growth hormones;
  • Significantly increase the impact of chemical compounds and preparations.

After disinfection, the soil in the greenhouse is treated with Bordeaux liquid, after about a couple of days, and then it is sprinkled with manure, sawdust and compost, which are again embedded in the soil to a depth of several centimeters.

How to clean a greenhouse cover

Many necessary work has already been done, but it remains to clean and sanitize the cover, that is, the film itself. It is removed from the frame and unfolds in the yard, is well washed off the hose and cleaned with soapy water. Then again, treatment with a strong pressure of pure water and spraying with copper sulfate. After, it is necessary to dry the film thoroughly, carefully roll it up and determine for storage in a dry and dark place until spring.

If a greenhouse with glasses, there will be a little more work. You need to rinse the windows, frames and joints well with a stiff brush and using strong pressure of clean water. Then, cleaning will need to be carried out using a soap solution and the same stiff brush. Further, the greenhouse is rinsed and dried again, all cracks and joints in it are qualitatively smeared.

The cleaning work must be carried out correctly externally and internally. The most correct way to clean a glass greenhouse will be cleaning with soap and water, and only after that fumigation.

Greenhouse frame reinforcement and processing

If the greenhouse is film and you “strip” it for the winter period, then the frame can be strengthened in the spring, during the covering of the structure. If the greenhouse is glass, then it is necessary to strengthen the frame before winter snowfalls, otherwise the frame may not survive the winter.

Strengthening occurs with the help of bars or logs, which need to set the base at the top and bottom. On the ground, the wooden support can be abutted in a brick or a piece of an old board, in the upper part - in the frame of a greenhouse, only by arranging the support on a more regular base, for example, from the same board so that the support does not break.

Processing the frame of the greenhouse is simple. After cleaning and fumigation, the frame should be treated with slaked lime. You can use a thick solution of bleach, which is prepared at the rate of 2 kg of lime and 100 g of copper sulphate in a bucket of clean water.

How to prepare a greenhouse for winter

Having spent in the general assembly just a couple of days to prepare the greenhouse for the winter, you will make an excellent contribution to the future crop, as well as save the structure from collapses and decay, which will give it a chance to serve you for a certain number of years.
